"Plugged In" A representation of my relationship with VR

This image I entitled "Plugged In" is meant to represent my relationship with Virtual Reality.

I feel as though I am forever connected to the virtual world no matter how far away I am from it. I long to be back in the multiverse exploring locations that would be impossible in reality.

The image was created by combining a real picture of me wearing my VR headset, the HTC Vive, with CGI elements that I modelled and textured myself.

If you look to the arms of me, you will see subtle shackles representing imprisonment. You will also see that my skin is emitting a red energy from below it and you can slightly see the palm of my right hand due to the glow on its surface.

A red glow was added to the body with Volumetric Lighting in order to make the figure more of a silhouette.

Many cables were included to further emphasise connection to the virtual world and the server towers in the background push this element even more.

If you look closely you will see that I am slightly levitating above the ground, look to the spot where the shadow stops. This is to represent the feeling of godlike power that VR gives the user. You can do anything and so feel powerful.

The cable on the back of the head is placed to look less like it is connected to the headset and more to look as though it is connected directly into the back of my head. This is to show the strength of connection I have to the virtual world.

Finally, the cold metal external world was meant to show how depressing the real world is combined to the wonders of virtual existence.

In conclusion, I am happy with how this image turned out, If I had spent more time on it I would have added maybe a little more clutter and props to the environment around the central point.
